Residency: Fredericton Botanic Garden
July 2025
In July 2025 I had the pleasure of being the artist in residence at the Fredericton Botanic Garden. It was great to work in such a beautiful space and to meet visitors to the garden and the wonderful staff. During this time I worked on making a wet felted interpretation of a mountain laurel flower and a mountain laurel bud. I was intrigued by the geometry of this plant. I learnt that when pollinators like bumblebees land on these flowers, the stamen, which area tucked into pockets in the petals, catapult out and fling the pollen onto the pollinator.
The final piece will be exhibited at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre in September.
